That’s a very nice gift, but hopefully he also gave you a little lesson on how to care for the life that is now in your hands. Or you can do your own research. They need a lot more care than people realize.
Cats need to be played with daily to stimulate their mind, keep them happy, and get exercise. The litter box needs to be cleaned daily, they need to be fed a couple times a day (with their preferred food), and fresh water changed daily. And they DON’T need baths unless they get something really dirty all over them.
That is wonderful. Caring for others takes our minds off of ourselves and our problems and you are the most important thing in HER life by a million miles. It might not be what you originally wanted but hopefully you got something you needed.
oh she is going to be your best friend! cats are very intuitive to an almost psychic level. she knows when you’re sad or anxious and will try to comfort you. get her activity toys and a little covered bed hut. churros are the treats you need for her.

After I got out of prison and settled down, I got a kitten (Bouche). I called my mom and told her. She said, “Oh, Shyla, you can’t afford that! I’m not going to tell your father. You’ll have to tell him yourself.” Mind you, I was 53 at the time.
So Mom hands Dad her phone and tells him that his daughter needs to speak to him. So he asked what’s up. I told him I was getting a kitten. He said, “Wonderful!”
I don’t think Mom even forgave him for not being upset.
