My cat was on a human medication. I forget which one, but it was cheaper to get it at the drug store than the vet’s office.

I used to go to a pharmacy with an RX from my veterinarian for phenobarbital for my dog that had seizures.

My cat used to be on amlodipine for hypertension and I’d have to pick it up at our regular, human med pharmacy. Each time I had to sign that I was a guardian of the “minor” that was my 17 year old cat.

Fun fact is most medicines are the same for people and animals.

Honestly my cat should probably be on Gabapentin just like me too

At one point my mom, my uncle, me, and my dog were all on the same medication (at different doses of course). Then recently I was on the same dosage of a different med as my other dog (who is only 10 pounds)

I was on gabapentin when my older puppers was alive and he was also taking it. Was kinda funny when we ran out of his meds I’d just give him some of mine til his script got refilled. Gabapentin works great for dogs in pain, esp nerve pain.

You can also give your dog tiny amounts of benzos like xanax if they’re really stressed out during certain times of the year, like if they freak out while fireworks go off or car rides. Back in the day my friend was told by her vet just to give one of her dogs like .125 mg (half of a quarter mg) of alprazolam (xanax), and it worked great. Wouldn’t hide and shake uncontrollably the entire night, poor lil guy.

Obviously, talk to your Dr before giving your pet any human meds. Just neet that we can take the same meds as our pets sometimes.

That’s interesting! Have you noticed any specific behavioral differences with your cat, like is he noticeably more relaxed? You said it’s helped him be able to go to the bathroom more easily too?

I give my dog prilosec cuz she barfs a lot.

Damn I wish my cat was on 10mg, I’d be able to get it from chewy or costco. I have to get it compounded because she’s on 5mg

Meloxicam (Metacam) is a prescription NSAID really common in vet med. Dogs, cats, small critters like bunnies, guinea pigs, & rats. Everybody gets it. Apparently it’s delicious too, my rabbit would take his willingly and enthusiastically like I was offering him a treat!

But when *I* took it (human brand name Mobic), it made my kidneys freak out. So that wasn’t fun.

I could be wrong, but, did I not see this post a few months ago?
