A lot of people work at warehouses, and being forklift certified gives access to a higher paid role compared to the rest of the workers but still generally low paid. So it pretty much a minor status symbol in the industry, but generally, it can be the difference between barely scraping enough to live and just barely being comfortable but not well off by any means. It also represents moving from physical labor to using a machine, which can be a big difference to people’s lives outside of work as they will just have more energy for everything. Its generally an important milestone for people working in the industry.
So going I just got forklift certified is sort of like going I just got a small but personally significant promotion, people in the know understand what it represents but to outsiders its so absurd its memed a lot to celebrate the milestone but memed because it is quite funny.

Allow me to dredge up a piece of 20-odd-year-old internet historyā¦ The answer is Heather Harmonās husband Jim, and is NSFW. He was forklift certified and had a certain horse like quality. She had a certain and specific skill too, that meant we all wished we were Jim Harmon.

Serious answer- I donāt know about anywhere else, but in my city there are always jobs available for forklift drivers, itās well paid, and itās very little investment to get it.
So, job security and a decent wage lends itself to memes about being a good catch.

I’m forklift certified, because mom wanted me to get a job faster and then I ended working a 9-5 office job… but I can drive and use a forklift.

Although I, too, have a forklift certification from back when in the day, automation will be taking fork lift jobs, unfortunately.
The company I worked for had automated forklifts back in 2008 at their main distribution center.
It’s only a matter of time.

I worked in a warehouse and learned to drive a forklift and used it every day, but I was never certified in any way. After a few months I watched some safety videos for insurance purposes. Maybe bigger companies require a certificate? I donāt see what the big deal is. There are levels to it, and a certificate doesnāt mean you can operate a forklift at the highest level.

I’m forklift certified and don’t get it either. The jobs pay shit. They’re almost always under $20 an hour and you’ve gotta be lucky to find ones offering overtime. Plus, most places I’ve worked, people avoid forklifts like the plague because they don’t wanna be relied on for a bunch of stuff

Forklifts have 2 gears (F / R), 3 levers (forks up/down, forks left/right, forks tilt up/down)
You can be “Forklift Certified” in 20 minutes online.
Not a bad way to get a taste for equipment operating as an entry level.

Maybe because of [Staplerfahrer Klaus](https://youtu.be/dJdCJMyBi5I?si=o4guVP_z45Pu5E0s) . A german instruction how to usw your forklifter. It’s very funny.

I’ve wondered this myself.
I always assume it has something to do with [Shenmue](https://youtu.be/FCYH8yF2Nt4?si=_kKrGcobuiuN90YP), or with [Klaus the Forklift Driver](https://youtu.be/ja7ap6AEuYU?si=Vb9B87n5f_6s5TRc).
Like 3 years too late to the joke my guy
I don’t got the cert boss but I can use one just trust me
