In 1984, Lisa McVey, then 17, was abducted and repeatedly raped by serial killer Bobby Joe Long. She gained his sympathy by calling him “sweet” and saying she understood him. He let her go, and her statement led to his capture and death sentence. She later became a police officer.

Her life even *before* the abduction was a nightmare! She was writing her suicide note the night before the abduction:

>McVey has candidly recounted her experience as a victim of abuse, even before her abduction.

>She had been forced by her drug- and alcohol-addicted mother to move in with and take care of her grandmother at age fourteen.

>Previously, she had been in and out of foster care.

>”I was being sexually abused at home.

>My grandmother’s boyfriend used to put a gun to my head every time he molested me for three years. It was nothing new to me.

>One bad situation got me to another bad situation is what saved my life.

>Because the night before [the abduction] I’m doing my suicide note and the next night I’m fighting for my life.”

What an absolute hero, it’s amazing how much she overcame.

It must have taken immense strength to survive that and later become a police officer

It’s not the first or last time we’ve seen emotional intelligence win where physicality would fail.

The world is a cruel fucking place. So proud of her strength.

That’s an indomitable soul inside her.

… and her mother, her grandmother’s boyfriend, her guardian’s boyfriend, and her abductor (who thought he was safe behind bars) have all mysteriously disappeared over the years, one at a time.

Seriously, though, you gotta admire the woman.

If this happened when she was 17, why show a picture of her when she was 11 or 12?

Ovaries of steel

Its curious how, rape having its stigma and all, by her surviving and fighting, I cannot help but feel admiration for her, the kind that you have for triumphant heroes. Like her story doesnt inspire me sadness or pity, at all, just pure badassery.

I wish stories of rape and murder could be contained in true crime subs and other subs that specifically focus on horrible things people do to each other. I don’t think rape and murder (even if the victim becomes a LEO) belong in “damn, that’s interesting” — “damn, the world’s shitty” or “damn, that’s horrible” maybe. 🤷🏽

What a total badass she is.

This is why I don’t believe in god

Wow.
Talk about rising like the Phoenix.

Reverse Stockholm Syndrome.

She is absolutely incredible!

People suck.

That was always my plan if I was abducted, too

A hero. ❤️

Hero

An excellent example of fawning as a survival instinct.

Fucking brutal, very smart woman, why are we showing a picture of her when she was 7 and not 17?

Good for her. Law enforcement is probably a great place to use her skills from a young age. And her compassion for victims of abuse is an asset.

She seems to have a high IQ saying that in those conditions to survive.

get executed, bozo

Gross bro
