One could argue that Japan desperately needs immigration in fact

I think Japan makes the opposite argument. Their economy is not that great, their aging population is screwed. They desperately need immigrants to come in and help but they are very resistant. In another county (like the US) we might call that racism.
Someone should tell him that Japans GDP hasn’t really grown since 1995 and they’re facing a huge demographic crisis. I’m not sure how he came to the conclusion that they are “excelling” but ok.

Electing politicians who want to reform the educational system moving forward has no bearing on the retrospective education system.
The declining test scores, countless reports on r/teachers of declining intelligence and engagement regarding students, and behavioral issues is a result of the *current* system.
Like, I’m sure Oregon’s 2021 decision to suspend the standardized testing graduation requirements was a wonderful idea. Give us more of that! /S

As a person who (formerly) identified as a libertarian for three decades and who was raised by intense, academic, Ron Paul-style libertarians, I feel like I learned this when I was 12.
My dad was a lifelong R voter and he was fiercely pro-immigration for entirely economic, “America first” reasons.
He used to say “every day a thousand Americans are born all over the world, they just haven’t come home yet.”
He died in 2006 and I don’t know what he’d think about what’s become of conservative politics in America.
He also *haaaated* cops. I think the creation of the DHS contributed to his death.

He viewed immigrants through a purely economic lens. “Let the other countries pay to raise them.”
I know that American xenophobia is unadulterated racism, I know the data doesn’t support the anti-immigrant stuff, but it is breathtakingly stupid.
Immigrants contribute more, cost less, commit violent crimes at half the rate, and subsidize the tax-base without receiving benefits. Elon seems to understand this – but I don’t know what he was thinking when he jumped into bed with these morons.
I mean, he’s also a moron, so I shouldn’t be surprised – but there is no industry I can think of that is more dependent on immigrants for its margins than tech.
Maybe farming in Florida or something.
