I’m starting to realise that probably no redditor has ever opened tiktok before

I feel like the migration to redbook is solely to give a middle finger to the US government for overstepping. I think anyone with half a brain could see YouTube shorts would be a better/safer option to create and watch reels.

Ah yes, because the US government is famous for caring so much about its citizens’ security.

I’m glad you enjoy government over reach, but the rest of us don’t. The “tiktok” ban is meant to make banning more as easy as possible. Tiktoks’ top 4 investors are us citizens. Most of it is based in the us, and the data is stored in by a us company in Texas. If it was a security really a risk, we would allow our tech to be made there. they could plant something much stronger than a flipper zero in microwaves, and we’d wouldn’t know.

Without even touching the rest of the debate, are we really pretending like YouTube and TikTok are analogous?

Believe me it’s a good thing they banned tiktok, lot of nearly nude talentless women dancing on the app and getting attention. Then you have your save Europe nationalists and Islamic nationalists and they’re all racist to each other. Everyone’s algorithm on TikTok in western countries is very bad and filled with brain rot. Tik tok makes your attention span shorter and screws your humour badly. I’m an ex Tik tok user who used to scroll 5-6 hours a day

i believe it was mentioned b4 that the law being passed is not actually banning TikTok the law being passed allows congress to ban any app they dont like or deem right, it also allows them to force the app to sell them selves to the government, TikTok declined and thus its an example of something that would be banned, this could continue to even Steam, Nintendo or playstation being banned, basically any company that has a basis outside the USA and not government owned.

I just think the whole thing is funny and if squabbling over the dance app is how hawks get their fix for combat I say let em have their fun.

Leaving a chinese app cause of security risks for a chinese app probably with security risks seems a moot point.

Pretty sure that’ll get banned too. The bill isn’t about TikTok specifically, trying to get it banned specifically was why other attempts failed. From my understanding, this bill is broader, and is about banning social media apps that are primarily owned by foreign entities based in countries that are considered adversaries to the US. TikTok is just the focus of it right now.

People are “migrating” to a worse app that is allowed in the US to how how stupid the TikTok ban really is.
