why does the US want to ban TikTok? Is it those challenges that put kids/teens at risk? I didn’t see any type of ban proposed for Facebook or Instagram? Or even YouTube, which has videos of young youtubers harassing or even assaulting innocent people?
I used to support the ban, but I think I realized the ban isn’t about China, dangerous content, or anything else. It’s about control. The US can tell Meta, Google and Twitter what to allow on their platforms. They can’t tell ByteDance – which is why TikTok was the hotspot for content criticizing Israel in the early days of the war in Gaza.

I have a simple solution. Stop using Meta. Stop using Twitter. Cancel Prime and stop ordering off Amazon. Stop using TikTok. We the consumers have all the power. Voting doesn’t just come through the election, but from how you spend your time and money.

I am starting to think that going social media free is a possibility for me by the end of the year. I already dont use Facebook, deleted during the 2016 election. Insta is basically a side note, and likely getting deleted soon. Tiktok and Reddit are my mains. Have Bluesky as mostly a backup right now.
Every accusation is a confession from them. They were always the deep state or trying to be.
Underground media. Zines. Pamphlets. Don’t become dependent on new virtual media. The old ways still work and I think they are going to become necessary once again.

One of Carlin’s points was politicians on both sides are there to give you the illusion of choice.
Had a now deceased friend who was heavily involved in republican politics his whole life.. campaign manager etc. He once told me both sides of the aisle were friendly behind closed doors. He said it was all smoke and mirrors that made it look like they were seemingly enemies.
