It’s a Civil matter on par with a seatbelt ticket. Immigration court is backed up with Decades of unresolved cases and the right don’t want to do anything. The most screwed up part is they are kicking out tax paying immigrants at the behest of a guy who has been convicted of tax fraud and shady business practices. I just don’t understand these people.

The Right’s two-faced bullsh*t is just a game and they THINK it’s a game. It’s why they never compromise on anything, because in their minds, when they say “we just want to put up the Ten Commandments in the courthouse, what’s the big deal?” what they *mean* is “We want to make Christianity the official religion of the United States and force everyone to be like us, or else”.
So when people on the Left say “we just want to be allowed to live our lives the way that we choose”, the Right believes that we really MEAN “we want to figure out how to force all of you to live this way”.
It’s where their “can’t leave anyone else alone” attitude comes from. They’re liars, they’re hypocrites, they know what they’re actually thinking when they pretend to be reasonable, and they assume that everyone else is doing the same.
The more upset anyone on the Left gets when they won’t stop pushing against the smallest things, the more convinced they are that it’s really super important to Leftists that they’re going to force their “agenda” on them.

Seeking asylum is legal—framing it as “illegal immigration” ignores both domestic and international law.
Seeking asylum from economically disadvantaged countries is not a valid reason. Seeking asylum in a country that you have to pass through many others to reach is not valid either.

I believe in treating people with some fucking dignity, especially when those people work hard, pay taxes & social security and literally prop up the Country since it’s our businesses and corporations who hire them. They are people, and they sure as shit deserve better treatment than what the right shows them.
Being undocumented is No excuse for excessive cruelty or nazi behavior.
There is no morality inherent to migration, these are people moving from one plot of stolen land to a different plot of stolen land. Many of these people had the stolen land they lived on be stolen out from under them, my home state was once Mexico and then became the U.S. My family saw the border cross over them. Seeing a family move somewhere to chase a dream that place broadcasts to the world exists there shouldn’t be surprising. Not wanting to allow them in when we have all the room in the world is idiotic but the people coming here is not a moral or immoral thing, it is simply a move and us not welcoming them is where the immorality comes into play.
Coming to a country illegally and falsely claiming asylum is still illegal immigration
Having said that there is a process that must be followed. The basics of that process are that you must cross at a port of entry AND asylum must be reviewed and determined by the host country.
Don’t forget those lines while shouting.
Trump has not stopped people from seeking asylum. Chris Hayes is basically saying “the sky is blue” here. Yes, seeking asylum is legal, and was legal, and will be legal in the future. It was in law that you had to seek asylum at a port of entry into the United States. For many years, that wasn’t really enforced, so people would show up at any part of the border and immediately of course say they were seeking asylum.
What has changed is that the law that was already on the books is being enforced, and you have to do this at a port of entry. Much like for deportations in general, laws aren’t changing, but for the first time in many years, they’re just actually being enforced.
To seek asylum you have to enter the country through the proper channels. You can’t just illegally cross our border and when caught ask for asylum.
Entering the country illegally is a crime, you cannot enter this country without first going through the due process and expect the same rights as citizens. We the taxpayers are not responsible for those who would bypass our laws and expect the same treatment as citizens. This isn’t difficult to understand. We must protect our integrity as a nation to continue to accept immigrants LEGALLY, and in keeping our integrity intact it requires action be taken against the illegal immigrants.
Seeking asylum is legal but… If you’re not accepted asylum, then you can’t just walk in like you did. Also, isn’t there a process for that? If so, until you’re accepted, you cannot be here. Period
This isn’t a great comeback, because it can be shut down very easily by most conservatives who are against illegal immigration. Maybe you’ll send a low educated MAGA member into a tizzy at best.
The problem here is that the “seeking asylum is legal” comeback/argument leaves out a very important detail: by law, you must declare TO A BORDER AGENT, at the border, upon seeking entry, that you are seeking asylum. You’ll then begin that legal process. Hopping the wall and working for a few months on a farm and then saying you are here for “asylum” is not a legal pathway towards legitimate asylum.

Seeking asylum is something we have a path for in the US, but that doesn’t mean you just sneak in, hide in the shadows, and tell yourself you were seeking asylum. There is nothing clever about that comeback.
What happened to liberal support for DEI when it comes to immigration? Why is there so much support for giving those with geographic advantage the upper hand? Shouldn’t we be securing our border and making sure to take a more equitable and diverse pool of these so-called asylum seekers, so those that have to cross oceans have a level playing field to the ones that can just walk across a fence?

It’s not asylum to move to another country for a job. It’s also not legal asylum when you sneak in.

A friend had her sister, cousin, and niece all gunned down by their father. This was in Central America.

Idk who these people are but it ignores some key points. Seeking asylum is legal, the reasons for asylum matter and are a filter for granting or denying asylum.
IIRC this filter was severely lessened or turn off completely in certain cases and allowed “poor economic conditions” as a valid asylum reason. There was also something related to port of entry/intake methods that are codified and not being followed for asylum seekers.
