Frankly I’m surprised this tree has remained upright this entire Christmas.

It’s his house now. You are simply a warm lap and staff – responsible for food, entertainment, and petting.
Welcome your new feline overlord with catnip and treats.

Pro tip – with a tree that tall AND a cat, itโs a good idea to anchor the tree to the wall if you can.
The cat will come down once itโs hungry enough. In the meantime, ignore the pitiful cries and call him a silly goober. ๐

Yes. You absolutely cannot keep the cat out of the tree.
Youโll need to secure the tree.
Donโt use tinsel.

One year the lights on our tree stopped working. We went to investigate and found the light string chewed clean through. Idiot cat was okay, though we watched him closely for a couple of weeks. From that point on there was bitter apple smeared on every light string. Idiot cat is no longer with us, we miss him. (He had a medical condition, did not die by Christmas tree, I promise.)
Oh, and fishing line makes a great tree anchoring material. Strong and meant to withstand weight but clear and minimally visible. We anchor around the center with a loop and tie to railings, window handles, etc.

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!! YES!! This is how it is now! I put a box around the bottom of my tree and mine still found a way to get into the middle of it! This is the joy of having cats! Congratulations!! They make our world a better place with laughter ,comfort and protection! Cats ward off evil spirits too! They are the best! I canโt quit laughing at this pic! One year my now deceased cat ,knocked down our whole Christmas tree! I had to completely redo it and it looked even better ! Giggle! This is so funny! ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ
No worries, this is not just how it is now. Other than climbing the tree they will also tip it over, chew the wires (UNPLUG IF UNSUPERVISED!), rip off ornaments, shatter the glass balls, play with the blossoms and basically destroy the whole thing. Enjoy!

14 years old.
When she was younger, she used to be the bane of Christmas decorations, but for the past few years, she hadn’t shown much interest. It’s a bit sad, she’s getting older.
Yesterday, she jumped up and swiped at some Christmas tree branches and Santa to came crashing down from the top.
After a brief moment of hiding, she returned to inspect the damage and seemed quite pleased.

Honey… first of all, you don’t own/have a cat, the cat has/owns you! Secondly, they are smarter than people realize. This is probably just their way of getting your attention because I can promise you they can get down.

The first few years after I adopted my present cat I didn’t put up a tree for that very reason. Last year she did great. She did a lot of sitting on the windowsill behind the tree and loved to sleep on the soft tree skirt. So she is good to go. Emma is an indoor cat. She is used to climbing posts of different sizes and not wood.
The only cat I had that ever climbed out Christmas tree was the indoor/outdoor cat my parents adopted for us in the 1950’s. Once she climbed that first tree, she spent the next couple of Christmases in the basement. That seemed to cure her of that bad habit. By the time I was in 7th grade she would simply look at the tree.
I think my cats are broken because neither have ever been interested in climbing our Christmas trees. We’ve had both since they were kittens and trees every year, but the most they ever do is sit down under it from time to time. They’ve never claimed them, never knocked down any ornaments and usually they lose complete interest after the first day it goes up. ?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbc3cd1b40e72d9d7031ffd3e1cd88fc663b1313
