I’m pretty sure the Uncle Sam character was a tongue-in-cheek dig at white America for their tendency to criticize black artists. Am I understanding that correctly? Am I projecting my own narrative on it? It reminds me of The Goats (1990s rap group), and I’m all for it.

Sadly his performance is going over everyone’s head and it shows. There were so many visual references, and nuanced shade throughout the entire show. It was visually stunning.

I am 100% not in the demographic that would appreciate his performance but objectively comparing it to past halftime shows I guess I can’t help but feel it lacked a certain level of spectacle. Maybe that’s by design and went over my head?
Anyway I was about as whelmed by this show as kid today would be seeing Aerosmith I guess, and that’s fine. I still appreciate the effort and the exposure to something different.
That Grand National was fucking sexy though.

I’m aware I’ll get downvoted. Honest opinion, it was boring. He wasn’t bad, but as someone who doesn’t listen to him regularly, I thought the show as a whole was meh. Nothing too exciting or appealing but there’s been much worse too.
Like his music but didn’t love the halftime show. Give it 4/10

Well, as an old geezer who had only a passing familiarity with Mr Lamar’s output, crikey blimey, I’ve seen some half-time shows, but that was unreal.

Best part was Samuel L Jackson. I could hardly hear Kendrick in the first 2-3 songs. Not sure if they turned his mic up or what.
