I mean, solid advice. So many issues and disasters have happened because people panicked and made the wrong choice in haste?

I heard that the only reason why British tanks have hot water dispensers was because soldiers kept getting shot going out to boil water for tea

Any warm beverage, really. It helps calm you and stay focused, it’s actually in the SAS survival training manual along with carrying iodine tablets to purify the water with which to make said beverage. FYI, it’s not the first though, first and foremost priority is looking for shelter to avoid exposure to the elements.

This is actual survival advice. It does several things. Â If you can make tea, it means you can make fire. Fire is critical. It also means you have water and a vessel to boil water. It gives your mind something to accomplish to prevent panic. It forces you to sit tight in the same area, improving odds of rescue, outside of combat areas.Â

Despite being stereotypically British, taking some time to think though what to do can prevent reckless and stupid actions.

Everybody in here is talking about this like the fact it’s a cup of tea is important to the survival here. That’s not what this is about (though a nice cuppa never hurt anyone), the point here is to *stop, think, and calm down.* Way too many people died because they got into a minor emergency, took a rash or panicked decision, and ended up making things much, much worse for themselves. Just the act of stopping to think about your situation, what ways you might have to solve the issue, and what you need to do to survive will increase your odds of survival several times over.

There is real survival advice here. Because to brew a cup of tea you need fire and water(and a vessel to hold said water). This means first thing you are doing is setting up what you need to have purified and clean water.

This reminds me, I saw this video a long time ago on Discovery’s youtube channel whose title was something like “Survival Tips making wild tea “and the guy was teaching to make tea in the jungle. Wait let me find the video.
Being calm and taking a moment to think is pretty good advice at any time.

Green Tea actually calms you, removes anxiety and enables you to take better decisions because of L theanine raising dopamine/serotonine levels. It also makes caffeine more effective in your body, making you more alert
Everyone should be on this stuff in this deppressive society

That’s actually not bad advice. The tea part sounds goofy, especially to Americans, but the point of the advice is to sit down, take a breath, and do something marginally relaxing to help you think through your situation better rather than panicking, getting even more lost, and getting yourself killed

I worked at a restaurant and a younger girl was freaking out about a fire in the toaster. I calmly walked over and said “first step, don’t panic” and just sort of paused for a second with the bread burning away. Then I fixed it. Sometimes doing nothing will get the most done.

Read some Jim Corbett. He’s after man eating tigers in India in the 1920s, and in the middle of crawling around after an enraged tiger ‘I sat to think things over while my men made a pot of tea.’ An incredibly brave guy BTW

I once slipped down a snowy cliff while hiking miles away from any other human being in the mountains with zero signal. Incredibly stupid I know. After failing to climb up a few times I finally got pissed and just started walking along the river. Maybe two minutes in I stopped and realized I was acting emotionally. I sat under a broken tree and meditated for about five minutes. After I calmed down I thought it over and realized my best chance of survival was to stay near the trail. Eventually I was able to climb up because the rocks near the waterfall weren’t frozen and I could grip them. Learned a lot that day but circling back, this is solid advice.

There is a show called “Dude you’re screwed” where different special forces guys “kidnap” each other and drop them in the wilderness where they have to make it back to civilization within a time limit.
When it was the British guy’s turn he did in fact start by making a cup of tea
