Place I work at, got an email from someone asking why they couldn’t find a specific item (small boutique place, specific stock, curated inventory). We didn’t sell it in our store, wasn’t on the website. Tell the person we don’t have it, and weren’t planning on selling it later.
They confidently tell me, yes, we do sell the thing, and was mad I’d lie to them. When I asked where they heard it from I get a screenshot of ChatGPT

The worst thing is when you ask something in a forum or subreddit, expecting to receive answers from other human beings, but then someone just copies and pastes something from ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini or whatever.

Today at work a coworker was working on a project. Had a light for some control thing he was working on that was too bright. Slapped on a resistor to tone it down and it worked. He asked ChatGPT if it was too big of a size.
It came back and was like “yeah don’t do that, it won’t work”. So he said “yeah but I have it right here and it’s working”. ChatGPT was like “oh, well in that case it’ll be fine”.

I dated a guy that became so obsessed w Ai , he wouldn’t believe anything without verifying it on chat gpt.
We were repotting his plants and we had this plant care question we were disagreeing on. I go to a gardening type website to look for more qualified advice and he freaked out on me because I found information he “didn’t believe”. “Sounded completely wrong” apparently, despite it seeming like a fairly professional, informative site. Also distrusted the second source I pulled up that agreed w the first.
He only calmed down and reluctantly accepted this “suspicious information” once chat gpt confirmed what’d I’d read but wow what a weird reaction.
Some Ai bros can be fuckin weird man that’s all I’ll say

Honestly, Chatgpt can be a great tool if you know that the information can be inaccurate. Sometimes when I need a specific word, I describe what I want (“Tell me a word that describes what cheese on pizza looks like when you left it in the oven too long”) and it gives me the word I wanted. Of course I check if the word really means what I want it to mean but it’s helpful.

I like to use chatgpt to brainstorm names for things, but if it’s a question, is it not literally just less effort to Google it?

Using AI can be a great tool for learning and even helping to organize yourself (like with resume restructuring). It really shouldn’t be dismissed and I honestly think it’s stupidity to do so. I think the issue is more so people that blindly trust everything these AI platforms say without doing any fact checking or if they take the platform’s advice without applying their own critical assessment. Personally, Perplexity is my favorite platform because it includes references for any answer it provides. And of course you should still check these references and ultimately use your own mind.
I will say that I’m staunchly against using AI for creative purposes though (art, merchandise, creative writing, etc.). And personally, it would be hard for me to respect anyone that does use AI for these purposes.

Cool, I just lost the same amount of respect right back, cause of your generalizing.
AI is not a blanket “bad”.
There are reasons for ChatGPT’s negatives, no doubt.
But there’s also a lot you can learn from it,if you know how to talk to it, and how to clarify the answers.
