As a Brit, I only know about it from the Simpsons when Ned Flanders opened a store in the local mall and validated parking without purchase (which, being a comedy show, I figured wasn’t the idea).

Parking validation is a process where a business or facility offers complimentary or discounted parking to visitors, customers, or employees as a value-added service. The idea is that a customer receives a parking ticket upon entering the parking area.

I have a similar story! In France, having your train ticket validated is “composté”, whereas in Québec that means to compost/recycle. When I was asked whether we had “composté” our ticket yet, I answered that no, we hadn’t but I’ll recycle it when we get there.
The look of confusion I got.

I’ve been an adult in America for almost 15 years, and it’s never come up. Cartoons growing up made me think it was something I’d have to deal with a lot more often

I mean….. if validating parking entailed looking at the quality of the park job, those that park like ass hats might start focusing on making it in the line.

For the record, in huge areas of the country, you’ll never deal with parking validation because not everyone lives in a huge city

I remember being an English-speaking American all my life when I worked my first job at Eddie Bauer.
I was confused when an elderly lady came in and asked for some leather thongs, so sent her off to the mall’s Frederick’s of Hollywood.

During my first year in America somebody said “bless you” after I sneezed. I came from the Philippines where that never happens so it confused the hell out of me. The only thing I can relate it to is with priests sprinkling holy water unto devotees to bless them. So, I thought I accidentally sprayed on someone and just apologized.

Idk about this one, you ask to validate parking in a store, nowhere near where you would see someone park

A thought experiment, if you will.
In order to feed myself, in a city as a person with a car, after paying for the rent, the electric, the water, the car, the gas to put in that car I then have to pay to gave a place to store my car while I pay to purchase the ingredients to make food.
Do you realise how dystopian this sounds?

What makes it even stupider is that some american cities have more parking areas than living areas, and yet they still pay for parking.
