They were like:
“what the hell was that?”
“Shiver me… timbers”
“Shiver me timbers? Shiver me bloody timbers!!”
And they plundered like crazy that night to celebrate.

I’m pretty sure the first time a pirate said that was in the old Treasure Island movie.

“Another banger from Blackbeard! This guy just will not miss!”

Ngl it’s a hootenanny after that.

I still don’t have a clue what this sub is about

Who’s to say it, was a pirate that coined, the, term?

From Wikipedia: In heavy seas, ships would be lifted up and pounded down so hard as to “shiver” the timbers (wooden ship support frames), startling the sailors.

So if your girl asked you to shiver her timbers, she is absolutely ready to get her boat rocked.

Scissor me timbers!

The rest of the crew was surely taken aback.

Now ith very few large boats being made of wood “Shivering” or vibrating timbers have largely been replaced with steel framing and joists. They less often but still sometimes squeak but sounds nothing like shivering timbers.

Did a real pirate ever say “shiver me timbers” or is that all part of the Robert Newton thing?

What does it mean, eng is not my first language and I never understood that line

I was the thousandth upvote 😂
