I saw Radiohead around the time Kid A was released and I never saw as many confused and disappointed fans in my life.
(It was in Glasgow, so most of the audience were probably students who’d got themselves keyed up to sing along with Creep….and they didn’t play it. 😄)

This is just…. Artists in general
I fell in love with Franz Ferdinand (Scottish punk-pop, not the Arch Duke) and after 2 albums they went completely euro-beat dance disco tech. A lot of bands, for eg:MGMT, made some pop stuff to break into music that they really didn’t like so then very understandably started making what ever the hell they wanted after that.

That was me with Blind Guardian, to a degree. I heard The Bard’s Song and was psyched to have more amazing acoustic bardic sounding stuff. Then I found out they were actually power metal, which I also love but already have plenty of and that made me a bit sad. Still love em though.

Electric Six…sort of.
“Danger! High Voltage” was the song. “Fire” was the album.
It’s disco rock and the whole album is fucking hilarious and amazing.
After that album, they’ve progressively turned more and more new wave, completely bizarre, and/or bland. There are still nuggets of that original Fire in there…a few songs on some of their other albums are great. And some of the other albums are still well worth a listen…but it’s been a rollercoaster getting to that incredible disco-rock sound on their records, and it gets bumpier the father out you go into their now very long and (it pains me to say) protacted catalog.
If they’d just stop being so weird and get back to the simple sound that made them initially popular…my god…I’d have a hard time not giving them all of my money…

Sounds like me, a guy who has a very surface level knowledge of alt/Indie music that was developed from a friend of mine that I made in 2013 and a specific radio station in Los Angeles. All those groups that were new to me at the time like Saint hotel, the 1975, milky chance , silver sun pickups, and cage the elephant and phoenix and CHVRCHES and the list goes on don’t really have a bunch of songs that sound like the ones I really like from them 😭 the only group I found that has similarly sounding bangers is that one awesome Icelandic group/band that has the female and male vocalists that trade off.
EDIT: of monsters and men. So many of their songs scratch the same itch for me that little talks did for me back in 2013

I tend to have the opposite happen a lot. I like a song and then find out that everything else sounds way to similar and I get bored because it’s practically the same song over and over again.
