I once heard that you should look up who produced the song in cases like that

That’s how Blue October and Mumford and Sons started and ended.

I saw Radiohead around the time Kid A was released and I never saw as many confused and disappointed fans in my life.

(It was in Glasgow, so most of the audience were probably students who’d got themselves keyed up to sing along with Creep….and they didn’t play it. 😄)

My Type, Saint Motel…

This is how I feel about Saint Etienne. I love their song Side Streets but can’t get into their other stuff.

Way too many times.

Except Orbit Culture for me. I keep finding new songs and every one is incredible and exactly what I love.

Will still subscribe just in case

That feeling when BMTH used to be deathcore.

Stop Light Observations

This is just…. Artists in general

I fell in love with Franz Ferdinand (Scottish punk-pop, not the Arch Duke) and after 2 albums they went completely euro-beat dance disco tech. A lot of bands, for eg:MGMT, made some pop stuff to break into music that they really didn’t like so then very understandably started making what ever the hell they wanted after that.

Achilles Come Down

99% of my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist.

alt-J

Songs about Jane > Everything Maroon 5 did after that

Me with Palace and Hippo Campus

Every dam time

Starset is like this for me. Fell in love with their first album and a couple of other songs but everything else is totally different.

Or you listen to one song from them and all their other songs have a completely other vibe so your just sitting there wjth only one of their songs in your playlist 🥲

Sturgill Simpson: Sound and Fury

Welcome to The Gizzverse

That was me with Blind Guardian, to a degree. I heard The Bard’s Song and was psyched to have more amazing acoustic bardic sounding stuff. Then I found out they were actually power metal, which I also love but already have plenty of and that made me a bit sad. Still love em though.

Electric Six…sort of.

“Danger! High Voltage” was the song. “Fire” was the album.

It’s disco rock and the whole album is fucking hilarious and amazing.

After that album, they’ve progressively turned more and more new wave, completely bizarre, and/or bland. There are still nuggets of that original Fire in there…a few songs on some of their other albums are great. And some of the other albums are still well worth a listen…but it’s been a rollercoaster getting to that incredible disco-rock sound on their records, and it gets bumpier the father out you go into their now very long and (it pains me to say) protacted catalog.

If they’d just stop being so weird and get back to the simple sound that made them initially popular…my god…I’d have a hard time not giving them all of my money…

MGMT

The Killers. Hot Fuss is a 10/10 album where every song is good.

This is me when I discovered Foals.

Blur – Song 2

MGMT for me. I love little dark age, the rest just don’t hit the same for me

What song tho?

Sounds Doctors

However, after I listened to the whole album it was actually pretty good.

For me, this is Thee Oh Sees. Except I’ve never been disappointed in any of their albums.

Treaty Oak Revival did this to me recently.

Totally accurate ♥️

Super Furry Animals – Juxtaposed with you

Reminds me of Hoobastank…

Listening to unprocessed rn. Kinda feel this way because Deadrose is my favorite song, but I’m fine with them so far

This is exactly how I got tricked into buying the Freak Nasty CD… I heard Da Dip and thought that song was awesome… Every other song was trash…

Bob Dylan fans: first time?

RX BANDITS & PROPAGHANDI. I like the direction they went, though. People often forget you get your whole life you write your first album. Then the record company and their producers want the second album in the next nine months.

Chaos Space Marine – Black Country, New Road

The other feeling of finding a 10/10 song by a band you’ve never heard of, going into their other libraries, and finding every other song except that one is like a 7/10 at best.

This is me with the My Morning Jacket song “Like a River.”

Literally B.E.R. “Night Begins to Shine” and “Forever Mine” go crazy, and then all the other stuff Is different, not bad exactly, just different

Sounds like me, a guy who has a very surface level knowledge of alt/Indie music that was developed from a friend of mine that I made in 2013 and a specific radio station in Los Angeles. All those groups that were new to me at the time like Saint hotel, the 1975, milky chance , silver sun pickups, and cage the elephant and phoenix and CHVRCHES and the list goes on don’t really have a bunch of songs that sound like the ones I really like from them 😭 the only group I found that has similarly sounding bangers is that one awesome Icelandic group/band that has the female and male vocalists that trade off.

EDIT: of monsters and men. So many of their songs scratch the same itch for me that little talks did for me back in 2013

I tend to have the opposite happen a lot. I like a song and then find out that everything else sounds way to similar and I get bored because it’s practically the same song over and over again.

Me with dead bundy. I heard Better Alive, thought hoe amazing that song was and looked them up. They aren’t bad but that song is totally different from the rest of their discography
