There’s a competitive rock climber named Akiyo Noguchi who competed into her 30s and I swear every time she’d compete, the commentators would do everything short of calling her an “old hag.”

You get desensitized from it by watching the Olympics and seeing athletes perform at peak human levels at age 18 or something

To be fair, old for professional sports and old for life are 2 different olds.

The amount of life left over after professional sports hits a lot of guys really hard.
3 years in the NFL on average. You’re 26 and out of the league you spent your entire life getting into.
Now what?

Fernando Alonso is considered very old for the sport of F1, yet he’s only 43 years old. In just 24 years, he has watched like 3 generations of F1 drivers come and go. He’s got more experience in his pinky finger than I’ve got in my whole body, yet he’s only 43

Roger Federer played pro tennis until 2022 and he’s in his 40s. Lebron is 40 too. Sports science has come to a point where you don’t have to retire at 27 because you blew your elbow out 3 years ago and just didn’t have what it took anymore.

Um yeah. That’s because they get paid over 1M a year to have bricks thrown at them essentially for any kind of athletic team and other agencies. Everyone accepts it. That’s ENTRY for something requiring a type of physicality you have and are paid for

Lebron is my age. I have no idea how he physically can be dominant at this age.
Also, it’s getting to that time where Joey Porter Jr. and Surtain are in the league
I’ve never felt older.

Coincidentally, this is also how it feels trying to conceive after 35. In all other areas of your life, you have your whole life ahead of you, but in this one you feel like an old hag with the grains of sand slipping through your fingers. And then when you do get pregnant, you’re literally called geriatric!

Number one reason you ‘age out’ in competitive sports is because of how stressful competition is.
People who take care of themselves can do amazing things well into their 50’s.

And here I am almost 24 and I feel like I’m falling behind despite doing the best out of all my friends because I haven’t managed to spend enough time on the dating game to have a chance of getting a good relationship started that will reach the point where I can get married and have kids and I’m gonna end up having my first at 30 which means I’ll be 58 when my first reaches adulthood which means most of the good parts of my life will be over before I can really enjoy life with my kids as adults and Id need to live to at least 76 to see my first grandchild hit adulthood and
