I read that she told him that fentanyl is a US problem and that, if he tariffs Mexican goods, she’ll do the same. She basically told him “FAAFO.”

Anyone who believes anything Trump says is a fool. The conversation was probably literally the opposite.
I haven’t seen confirmation of this outside of Trump’s tweet. In fact, I’m seeing the direct opposite.
Note that Mexico has already been significantly curtailing through-migration for months, it is very predictable that Trump is going to attempt to obtain credit for something most Americans don’t know was already happening. He also of course fails to mention the reality that her response to him publicly was not flattering, she called out the United States for a) having so many drug users who demand fentanyl, thus empower cartels in her country to supply it and other drugs and b) being the source of almost all the guns that the cartels use for their violence. (Something like 85% of smugglers who move things across the Southern border are U.S. citizens.)

She made this statement in her public response to Trump:
*You may not be aware that Mexico has developed a comprehensive policy to assist migrants from different parts of the world who cross our territory en route to the southern border of the United States. As a result, and according to data from your country’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP), encounters at the Mexico-United States border have decreased by 75% between December 2023 and November 2024.*
She could have told him anything and he would believe it because he’s a moron and the problem was already made up. Migrant caravans are only an issue on Fox News when there’s an election and drugs aren’t being smuggled in by people crossing the border illegally. She doesn’t have to actually do anything to meet his demands because it’s a made up solution to a made up problem. Trump declares victory, nothing changes, but suddenly it’s not a problem anymore. And idiots will believe he’s some great negotiator for working out this deal.

We test everyone for drugs and throw all of the failures in jail-like rehab centers. Then bill them for thousands after the fact. When they can’t pay, we throw them in a regular jail and put them to work in the fields and factories.
