I grew up in Edmonton and remember when these signs started to go up. Originally they were crosses but people objected so they made them coffins.

The fact that someone hasnโt put a Mortal Kombat character on that sign already makes me lose faith in your city.

Sadly no one with any kind of knowledge about videogames will be able to take this sign seriously.
Aside from that, good sign.

Lmaooo Edmonton right? I drive past these signs every day.
They couldnโt just put a normal โdrive safelyโ sign it had to be a coffin. ๐ This city is wild

They also do this in South Dakota. Our signs say “Think” and “Why Die”. In some places there’s six of them lined up. Really sad

The Drive Safely ones are all over in this city. After seeing someone disabled try and use the crosswalk on their scooter and getting cut off, somehow I don’t think they work. Drivers are just too impatient.

South Dakota has similar. They say “x marks the spot” and they are all over the place

That’s kind of dumb ngl. My hometown would put up something like “Buckle Up” or “Don’t Drink and Drive” [name(s) of the deceased] Please Drive Safely”
At first when I started driving I didn’t think much of it until someone I knew from a grade below me died because a drunk driver hit him head on at over 100mph. So whenever I pass the corner I see the sign and his name and it still hits me.

Where I live, there are shrines or crosses on the side of the road or medians. Sometimes ghost bikes.

I think coffin-shaped signs with “fatality” serve as a haunting reminder of the tragic consequences of vehicle accidents, highlighting the importance of road safety and the lives lost.

If they hit something that is effectively undamaged and doesn’t need replaced (large pole, tree, rock wall, etc.) they should also award the object a “Flawless Victory” sign, too.
It’s only fair.

Where my dad’s from they put signs on the mountain roads saying ‘no deaths for x years’.
What do you think that will make boy racers do?
Yep, race like lunatics now.

In Wisconsin we have digital signs over some highways that straight up display the number of fatalities for that year. Itโs humbling.

My wife gets annoyed when we drive around I tell her, “Someone died there. And there. Someone ran their motorcycle into that building over there. Some guy lost his arm right there.”
Investigated fatal crashes for many years in a major city. So lots of stories from all over the city.
Finish him
