I always sing at least an octave below the songs. My voice is too deep.
Sometimes I have to sing a lower octave on the normal parts of the song, then go to the higher pitched ranges when the singer goes low, often matching his pitch then.

I always sing along with my favorite songs and pretty much don’t get any notes correct, who cares…
Then harmonize at a lower key.
