Name shortenings are quite strange

Yep… it is from the category Richard = Dickie

About to be boring bc I looked it up once! Weird abbreviated names are nicknames of nicknames. Margaret > Meg > Peg. Also Richard > Rick > Dick.

My fave is that anything that can be shortened to Ed (Edward, Edmund, Edgar, etc) can also be shortened to Ned, bc that’s where Ned comes in. Thus… The wreck of the Ned Fitzgerald.

Margret was a hard silly name for the British to figure out. It became Meg, then Peg, then Peggy.

It’s like William becoming Will or Willy, then Bill or Billy.
