Wait a minute here, according to the IRS’s own website, that pilot program was closed back on April 26, 2024 — ALMOST A YEAR AGO!!! What the fuck’s dogeboy talking about?
I was excited to share this program with the seniors I serve this year, but decided not to as soon as I saw this coming. Glad I didn’t, there is already enough confusion out there. Hope the AARP and United Way can keep it together for seniors.

Looks like this was for a pilot IRS program called DirectFile, not the already free (if under a certain amount) FreeFile.
The program was for 30 million Americans with less complicated filings.
Freefile works for 70% of Americans and still exists.

Overall a potentially helpful program, but essentially redundant. Not a real loss.
