I never understand what they mean with “she’s the music industry”. In what way? She didn’t create any new sound, her tunes aren’t groundbreaking, she didn’t even popularize diaristic writing since that’s been around since forever, Jeff Buckley would like a chat like helloooo Lover You Should’ve Come Over (except that song is actually very raw and honest, offering deep lyrics about growing older, reflecting on one’s shortcomings and past, so really nothing like Blandie, I guess she could be considered the mother of mediocre purple prose songwriting)? Even metal bands have heartfelt songs about love and relationships. Swifties piss me off so bad, I wish they’d listen to more music because this is embarrassing. No this is the musical industry based on solely marketing their approach with no such respect for peers or the industry or music in general utilizing the most toxic fanbase in existence, while performing a less than mediocre level of music compared to these others that put their entire soul into music with a decently well moderated fanbase that respect the industry and their peers genuinely. Every other musician listed here is their own individual artist/identity. They each have their niches and audiences. All pop, but distinct. Taylor is industry – she’s more of a musical capitalist who tries to sell to everyone like McDonald’s or Amazon. Someone who tries to copy and emulate other musicians, faking authenticity to get people to be fans (like Temu knockoffs of bigger brands). Date whoever the “IT” guy is to promote her brand. Aggressively marketing herself and using her personal relationship fodder to get ahead in the typical PR manner.
Ultimately that’s what the mainstream music industry is about. They focus on selling and squeezing every ounce of profit out of these artists. She’s just doing it more willingly and is more of a machine than artist. Therefore I see it as accurate – but less than complimentary.

It’s hilarious because Lana has always sounded like Lana since the start and everyone else has started sounding like her, Taylor obviously wants to sound like her. Arguably one of the most influential artists on the sound of the last 12-13 years and she was doing it years before any of them.

What’s really dumb about this is like what are they basing this on? Popularity? So because there are more swifties than there are some other artists means that person is “better?” Taylor is not a better musician than most of these artists. She’s not a better song writer than a lot of them, shes not a better singer than a lot of them, and she’s not a better performer than a lot of them. So whats the criteria? Simply the amount of streams she has while fully knowing a lot of swifties ONLY listen to her and will leave their Spotify running her music on repeat 24/7 to boost her numbers?
