Old Turkish proverb that sums up most voters in America.

I agree with everything except the part about the axe being clever. The followers of the axe were just very gullible.

RUSH has an entire song about The Trees from 1978:

There is unrest in the forest

Trouble with the trees

For the maples want more sunlight

And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples

(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)

They say the oaks are just too lofty

And they grab up all the light

We have a similar one in Romania. Something along the lines:

At first the axe was powerless and did not make much progress at chopping down the forest. But there was this crooked tree, envious of all the majestic ones that made a pact with the axe: the tree will give the axe just one branch and will be made king of all trees.

And the axe went swinging and started chopping the trees. First the weak ones, then the ones that thought they could make a deal with the axe.

The strongest trees initially thought that the axe could not touch them. But when the axe got a wooden handle…

In the end, of what was once a beautiful forest, only a swamp with rotten, crooked trees was left. They were of no use to the axe.

This is a misquoting of the proverb. The concept of “voting” was never part of the original proverb, and is likely a modern addition. The [proverb source](https://books.google.com/books?id=DTbgEn76m7sC&dq=%22When+the+axe+came+into+the+Forest%2C+the+trees+said+%22The+handle+is+one+of+us%22+++Turkish&pg=PA1) Wikipedia cites, simply says, “When the axe came into the forest, the trees said: the handle is one of us.”

The idea that the trees would “vote,” and therefore cause their own destruction is not part of the actual proverb.

Another goodie:

Honestly – most voters in the US didn’t vote as near as I understand it. I certainly didn’t vote for this bullshit [I mean, I did vote, but I voted against what is going on].

Not “most voters”, but close to half of them.

Wisdom is chasing them but they are are faster.
