“Where were the judges, where were the lawyers?”
As much as I hate to place any faith in them, every judge in this country needs to do some real soul-searching in the next few years.
Protect that man.
Question – can that Judge order contempt for that lawyer being flip in his response?
Because he was obviously lying.
Please, please, let there be more judges like this than I think there are.
What he’s trying to do obviously requires changing the constitution which he’ll never meet the requirements for in a million years, or am I being stupid.
You know it’s bad when a Reagan appointee blocks you.
I’m sure this will go all the way up to the SCOTUS, where the deciding opinion will be written by newly seated justice Aileen Cannon.
So is this lawyer simply lying?
reminds me of the government lawyer who argued children aren’t entitled to toothbrushes or soap. How could she go home that night and look people in the eye?

If it’s blocked by some uppity liberal/non-Trump appointed judge then it’s – See? The libs will do anything to stop us, even other republicans sometimes! We’d love to do everything you frothing at the mouth MAGA folks want from us, but we just can’t.
The dangerous part is when the latter turns into “they block us at every turn even though we control all three branches – we need to give ourselves more power/s”
Senior U.S. District Judge John Coughenour on Thursday was blistering in his criticism of Trump’s action as he granted a temporary restraining order that blocks Trump’s executive order from taking effect nationwide.
“I’ve been on the bench for over four decades, I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one is. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order,” Coughenour, an appointee of Ronald Reagan, said from the bench. “There are other times in world history where we look back and people of goodwill can say where were the judges, where were the lawyers?”
Coughenour interrupted before Brett Shumate, a Justice Department attorney, could even complete his first sentence.
“In your opinion is this executive order constitutional?” he asked.
Said Shumate, “It absolutely is.”
“Frankly, I have difficulty understanding how a member of the Bar could state unequivocally that this is a constitutional order,” Coughenour said. “It just boggles my mind.”

While I am glad at least there are some judges with some sense left, all this takes is for Trump to appeal and it gets kicked to SCOTUS.
For anybody who doesn’t know, SCOTUS has been padded with Trump loyalists who will do anything he tells them to.
There is still a heavy chance this sets a dangerous precedent.

Yeah! Our legal system is complicated AF, but there are some simple items that are irrefutable and a constitutional amendment cannot be unilaterally ignored by one branch of government.
And lawyers have an ethical obligation to uphold our laws, and a statement of flat out support is completely disingenuous.
I’m sorry but I’m done with tentative victories. We’ve had a lot of high fives over the past few years and look at where we are now. He’s been playing the long game while we’ve been celebrating minor and reversible wins. I’m not trying to spread doom. Just patience and focus. A long battle lies ahead.
Guaranteed this makes it through SCOTUS. Alito loves to justify bullshit right-wing bastardizations of the Constitution based on arcane 18th century interpretation. Probably throw in a Bible verse for good measure. Any way they can rationalize that the 14th Amendment, which says:
*All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.*
doesn’t actually grant citizenship to people born here if they’re the wrong nationality or color.
Any lawyer trying to argue for this flagrantly unconstitutional case in court should be disbarred.
How many of Trump’s (former) lawyers are disbarred, unemployed, or in jail?
That is the quality and type of lawyer he hires. The lawyer’s response seem to be exactly what I would expect from a person of that education and willingness to work with / for Trump to say.
Everyone supporting Trump and his administration is either just ignorant or evil. Period.
Trump’s lawyers have been

* Bankrupted
* Struck off
* Plead guilty
* Sent to jail

Something we have to remember is that successful takeovers of democracies were done by taking over the lawyers and judges first.
I am a German legal scholar, and my alma marta was one of the universities that created the legal theories the Nazi regime was founded upon. Lawyers will argue the constitution away because it restricts fascist leaders to use their power as they please, they will create the theories that makes it sound valid how they diminish the rights and social standings of other to prepare for much worse.
And it is the job of lawyers who believe in democracy and a working and inclusive society to not allow the legal and judicial takeover. The US already has the issue that the first Trump turn prepared the way for exactly this legal infiltration of the system, and it has to be seen if there is still enough left in the US legal system to ensure that it does not fall.
