I did not know I was claustrophobic until now.
I get many other dangerous sports like basejumping, skydiving in generall, risky climbing etc etc. Besides the adrenalin it has a view.
But caving? There is nothing remotely beautiful down there? And it’s not even a thing to impress other people with. It’s not like Dave going Mach-fuck jumping of a cliff, and gliding gracefully. No, it’s like: Cool, you went into a dark, wet and smelly place, squiggeling throught the tightest cracks….
Ok I get it. It’s a fetish-thing.
Idk why but I’ve been seeing a ton of these get recommended to me by YouTube.
Altho some of the stories are pretty interesting. The ones that involve water within the caves are the scariest.
One of the stories I think someone tried to go beyond and discover a deeper route within a cave. But he ended up in a dead end and ran out of oxygen in his tank. So he couldn’t go back the way he came because he wouldn’t be able to make it through the water tunnel.
I dont think I will ever be able to feel empathy for cavers dying horrible deaths. Especially cave divers. There is just a line of unnecessarily risking your life for absolutely nothing after which I just dont feel bad anymore.
I am claustrophobic, so that might be the cause of this. I just cant come even remotely close to comprehending why anyone would ever crawl through tight spaces underground. Playing Russian roulette because you were bored makes more sense to me than this.
