We picked up GTA V at midnight release at that gamestop during sophomore year of college, love ames, love Master Chief. I knew someone who had a part time job there and the owner was legit too lazy/unfocused to order a replacement installment (that was the word)

This monument will be standing when the world is a wasteland. The Rosetta Stone of our civilization to whatever alien or other evolved species happens upon it when we are dust.

Man remember finally getting an Xbox One there like 12 years ago. Surprised it couldn’t hold out with so many students in town each year. Though it is at the corner of a high profile corner so no surprise if they got pushed out

Halo 3 was the biggest thing EVER when it was released. Every store that sold this game at midnight had lines around the block. People were giving bums money to stand in line for them or bribing to cut the queue. Shipment pallets with the game were being stolen before they even hit the main distribution centers. Microsoft marketing executives literally won awards from some of the most storied names in PR. You couldn’t escape it, at the time I lived in a third world country that is definitely wasn’t a primary target for Microsoft and even I was swept up by the real-world hype. The only two comparable releases are Skyrim and GTA V.

One of the Gamestops in my area has had the same Mario Galaxy window display since the game came out. They never changed it to anything else.

So I’ve been reading a lot of “this hurts” comments, which is understandable, but think about why that GameStop isn’t there anymore.
20 years ago, I had to go to a GameStop to buy a game. Or at least some brick and mortar. While that was fun in its own way, I can now buy a brand new game day one without leaving my house. And, I can buy most new games for the same price I bought then 20 years ago because so much of the bloat from physical copies doesn’t exist.
GameStops are closing because the entire process just got so better, that you don’t need it anymore. Barring being an employee or stockholder, that’s a good thing. Don’t let nostalgia get in the way of recognizing that something in your lifetime improved so greatly, it turned something wonderful into something useless without changing that thing at all.

As someone who worked at a GameStop, they must’ve had decent or at least negligent district managers. Ours kept getting pissy because we had a Funko sign above our pops but the sign wasn’t in planogram but nothing else was supposed to fill that space and it was still a nice sign.
Would literally have arguments about it for basically the entire time he would visit our store. At least it meant he couldn’t bitch about any of the other stuff we did that wasn’t technically how we were supposed to do it.

Well, to be fair, the students up at ISU aren’t known for gaming. More shucking corn the long way and being turds.
