Absolutely stunning shot, what a peaceful vibe this view has

My gf and I visited Yosemite for the first time in September of ’22 and were absolutely stunned by the beauty of that valley. We only had a couple of days but we took a long walk through the valley and hiked up to Glacier Point the other day. Took us all day since we stopped so often to enjoy the landscape. Next time we’ll visit the US we’ll only do the national parks.

This picture beautifully encapsulates the serene environment.

The place I want to be at

BEAUTIFUL pic!!

I was just there this week and it was absolutely stunning in the autumn colours.

Some of my family in San Francisco have never ever visited. It’s only a few hours away.

Sentinel Bridge: A Breathtaking Vantage Point in Yosemite National Park

Located in the heart of Yosemite National Park, California, USA, Sentinel Bridge is a popular tourist destination and a photographer’s paradise. This iconic bridge spans the Merced River, offering breathtaking views of Vernal Falls, the surrounding cliffs, and the lush valley below. In this article, we’ll delve into the history, features, and attractions of Sentinel Bridge, as well as provide tips for visiting this natural wonder.

History and Construction

Sentinel Bridge was built in 1907 by the Sierra Railway Company to facilitate the transportation of workers and supplies to the construction site of the O’Shaughnessy Dam. The bridge was designed by engineer David H. Pierce and took nearly two years to complete. Initially, the bridge was used primarily by workers and locals, but its scenic beauty and accessibility soon made it a popular destination for tourists.

Features and Attractions

Sentinel Bridge is a steel arch bridge with a total length of 240 feet (73 meters) and a height of 120 feet (37 meters) above the river. The bridge’s design allows for unobstructed views of the Merced River and the surrounding landscape. Visitors can walk across the bridge, take in the stunning views, and enjoy the serene atmosphere.

The bridge is particularly famous for its vantage point, which offers a unique perspective on Vernal Falls, a 317-foot (96-meter) waterfall located just upstream. On a clear day, visitors can see the waterfall cascading down the rock face, creating a misty veil that rises into the air.

Visiting Sentinel Bridge

Sentinel Bridge is located on the Mist Trail, a popular hiking trail that leads to Vernal Falls. To access the bridge, visitors can hike the Mist Trail from the Happy Isles Trailhead or take a shuttle bus from Yosemite Valley.

Before visiting, it’s essential to check the weather and trail conditions, as the bridge can be closed due to high winds or maintenance. Visitors should also be prepared for a moderately strenuous hike, with an elevation gain of over 600 feet (183 meters).

Tips and Safety Precautions

  • Be mindful of the bridge’s railings and do not attempt to cross the bridge without proper safety equipment.
  • Watch your step, as the bridge can be slippery, especially after rain or snow.
  • Keep a safe distance from the edge of the bridge to avoid accidents.
  • Be respectful of other hikers and photographers, and do not block the bridge or trails.
  • Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection, as the hike can be challenging.

Conclusion

Sentinel Bridge is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Yosemite National Park. Its unique vantage point, stunning views, and rich history make it a photographer’s paradise and a nature lover’s dream. With proper planning and precautions, visitors can enjoy this breathtaking attraction while ensuring their safety and respecting the natural environment.
