For those who don’t get it: Algorithms love emotional stuff. Big dramatic shifts in opinion tied to divisive stories get the most clicks. Most of these posts are bots. They all sound the same—five or six paragraphs, barely any details.
Look at Twitter: a controversial tweet drops, and boom, 50-100 replies in minutes. Bots aren’t there to only agree; they’re there to shut down real people because they have opinions. The algorithms or the people controlling them seem to be suppressing real discourse until it’s more profitable.
Right now, “Trump supporters flipping” is trendy, so it’s getting pushed for clicks.

Not surprising at all. I posted a video yesterday to the sub showing undercover investigation into the Project 2025 founders which showed direct admission to their plans to overthrow our government and within a half hour, the post was deleted.
To clarify: I specifically stated in the post that I was not trying to start any sort of “war” in the comments regarding the video, I was just genuinely curious to see what the right thought about it, seeing as how there was a recent trend in this sub of MAGA republicans’ “coming in peace” posts trying to hear from the left about their opinions. I even reached out to one of said posters and actually had a very productive and civil conversation where I feel they both of us gained a bit more insight into each other’s points of view, something that I personally feel is extremely lacking right now.
The truth is there is bound to be some Trump voters who regret their vote and probably some Biden voters who regretted their votes too. Doesn’t mean shit. By the sheer law of probability you’re bound to found some.

Reddit is seeing conservative bot swarms, to make it look like conservatism isn’t getting less popular by the minute.
The suggestion that those handful of anecdotes must be fake because they personally haven’t experienced something similar is patently idiotic. There are some 335 Million Americans. Even if 30 Million of them are conservatives who regret their vote, you still don’t have strong odds of personally knowing any yourself.
“I don’t personally know any” is a piss-poor argument against the existence of any. Shut your eyes and cover your ears, and you’re even more likely to not meet them.

I always advocate to people who spend vast amounts of time in an online reality to take a break, don’t go on social media, don’t watch the TV or look at news websites, just go outside find the place with the least amount of people that you can, preferably a place in nature away from civilization, and just go walk around and relax. I think people everywhere now more than ever are so tightly wound and tense that everyone is on edge and I think unfortunately it will cause both physical and mental health issues later on. Anyone reading this, regardless of who you are, what your beliefs are; go spend some time in nature and breathe some clean fresh air and enjoy the silence. You only have one life. Half if not more is already taken from sleep, school, and work for most people. That leaves you with not very much, I wouldn’t waste what little time you have left. Especially arguing with strangers through a digital screen. Please do this before you all end up like a Meat Canyon character.

Genuine regret is going to be rare simply because MAGA are untethered from reality. I am sure they think inflation dropped from 674% to 0.4% overnight and the unemployment rate went from 113% to 2%. They don’t know any of the stuff Trump and Musk are doing. I doubt they even know Musk is involved.

We don’t get out of this by MAGA Trumpers seeing the light and regretting their votes. We get out of it with engagement and turnout. Every election is about turnout. All the horrible stuff happening will hopefully engage interest from not-yet eligible or just eligible voters, from parents whose kids will suffer consequences, from low-income folks whose wellbeings will be compromised, and from otherwise disinterested people recognizing and being affected by all of it. In my city of about 100,000 registered eligible voters, our current mayor was elected in a runoff with about 4,000 votes. The turnout was atrocious. Victory happens in the margins. It’s not realistic or optimistic to think we can debate fanatical cultists out of their entire identity. It’s much more realistic and optimistic to think we can make progress with better turnout from like 5% of the people who previously just haven’t really cared, don’t think they matter, or are forgetful, preoccupied or just plain uninformed. That’s what every effort and discussion should be focused on. Less “my MAGA uncle is mad his eggs are expensive and his cousin got laid off!!!” More, “my college-aged nephew is planning on voting next time because his roommate is queer and afraid for his life.”
