And everyone conveniently forgets that he was the one that started the movement to ban TikTok at the end of his first term.

Take this as an opportunity to get away from apps like this. We don’t need them to have our voices heard.
The number of people I saw online talking about how tiktok was literally the only place they could find unbiased news or find community….whew. Like sorry to be an “oldhead” but I promise we had ways of sharing information and connecting with people before that app came along. don’t give up that easy y’all like damn.

Trump’s “saving TikTok” would mean a 90-day extension. They still have to essentially be in the process of selling it for the 90-day extension according to the law.

He (the president) doesn’t have the power to annul a law willy nilly anyway so I’m not even sure why anyone would have paid his campaign promise any heed.

I loved TikTok. I did. But if Trump “saves” it, it’s still dead to me. I’m not falling for some fascist maneuver like that.
Thank God people are recognizing this. They didn’t even need to shut down. Even if the law had gone into effect and it had been off the stores, people could’ve kept using it if they didn’t “go dark.” They’d still be making money in their largest market. The law didn’t even go into effect either; they’re being insanely dramatic and this is obviously a stunt to generate sympathy and get people hyped on Trump ‘saving’ them, even tho the ban was his idea originally.
Also you cannot tell me that a bunch of private ByteDance shareholders are down to have TikTok “go dark” when it doesn’t need to and lose money, this just makes it seem more like China is fully in control
It’s just a PR Stunt so he can have some positives in peoples mind before he more than likely ruin the economy/global economy

I agree that this is all a performative stunt.
But for some context, the two messages occurred at different times in the shut-down process. The message on the left appeared as a warning; you could click “Dismiss” and continue to use TikTok.
The message in the right appeared once TikTok was officially shut down – “Dismiss” became “Close App,” and you could no longer access anything within the app.

The only thing that can save TikTok in the US is if the company is sold to Americans. But even then, the app will almost certainly change for the worst as the new owners seek to recoup their investments.
