I work with a guy who says that the allies who have partnered with us in the past did so on their own accord and that we owe them no loyalty. I said that I didn’t think that’s how alliances worked and he said I was being anti-American.

What’s wrong with lecturing Trump?
He constantly says things that are plain wrong or make no sense.
For example, his numbers about US support to Ukraine are off by over 200 billion.
Pretending that Putin would never break a deal with Trump, like he did countless times before, just because he “respects him”, is ridiculous. Especially when millions of lives are at stake and possibly even WW3. It’s totally reasonable to ask for security guaranties.
Zelenskyy was obviously the rational and grown up person in the room. Maybe if more people would correct Trump when he says nonsense, he wouldn’t be as out of control.

The U.S. is not offering to “defend Ukraine”. No security guarantees were offered at all for half the national income in perpetuity.
