Watched this at the Hollywood Theater last year, the uplifting story of a man who comes really, really close to killing his wife, but in the end doesn’t!

I just watched it the other day and have to say this is one of those classics I just don’t get. If you’re interested in technical stuff and the history of film making I can see the appeal maybe. But the story is just our hero, one of cinema’s all time worst husbands, nearly murdering his wife for another woman, backing off, continuing to be a violent maniac to other people, she almost dies, what’s this she’s still alive who could have predicted that?!?! and in the end everyone is happy like nothing ever happened. That the wife won the first Oscar for best actress seems kind of sad, that women’s place was just to be the put upon mistreated eternally forgiving angel for shitty men. I don’t get why it’s so beloved. Technically impressive I guess but so misogynistic. It’s like Birth of a Nation for women, maybe important for film history but the story has such painfully regressive social attitudes that it’s not even interesting to watch for me
Incredible film!
