Did they learn nothing from UnitedHealthCare’s little incident?

I don’t understand how an insurance company can just decide medical interventions which are 100% necessary can just not be covered because fuck you. How is this even legal?

So we pressure the surgeons to rush; bad. If they don’t rush, you have to pay and exhortative fee; bad. Either way the patient is put at greater risk! That shouldn’t be legal, but I’m sure that it is 🤬

I still don’t get this. American pay insurance and then pay anyway for treatment? Why?
In my shithole country I pay taxes and get universal healthcare. What the fuck.

It’s funny that you think your Anesthesiologist will be in network and covered anyways… They were never going to cover it to begin with
Time to class action insurance companies practicing medicine without a license. For law if a company suddenly decided to dictate what arguments can be used by their client in a court while not being lawyers they would get fined heavily, but insurance companies can practice medicine all day long?

As so.eone who has worked in hospital case management for years insurance companies are the fucking worst. 30 years old and in a car wreck? Go to a nursing home because your insurance AI algorithm decides you don’t need inpatient rehab.

just as a reminder…
*”Highmark Health, parent of Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in four states, **reported $417 million in profits** for the first half of this year as the company grew its health insurance and medical care provider businesses.*
*Pittsburgh-based Highmark, which is the nation’s fourth-largest Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance company, reported $14.7 billion in revenue and “an operating gain of $307 million,” the company said in a report Thursday morning. Highmark also said it “maintained a strong balance sheet with $11 billion in cash and investments and net assets of $10 billion” as of June 30, 2024.*
So now insurance executives with absolutely no medical experience will be deciding how long certain surgeries should take? Fuck right the fuck on out of here.

I had a pre approved endoscopic surgery (covered by Aetna) that ran into complications and surgeon had to make a decision to perform open surgery to finish the process. Aetna refused to cover any of it because they don’t cover open surgery. Over 100k when the bills came in.

“Sir? Hi! I’m the anaethesiologist. Yeah, I know you’re meant to be unconscious right now and you’re probably in a lot of pain but the surgeon is still operating. Yeah, your insurance only covers anesthetic for the first 2 hrs so unfortunately you’ll need to be conscious for the rest of the procedure. Just try to keep still as much as you can. You want an Advil?”

We need to start protesting harder against these fuck sticks. They will suck us dry for every dime we have while literally doing nothing. Turns out, it’s the most profitable thing ever to pay them for coverage and then they pay out………….nothing. This is killing people. Every single day. This is not the way a healthy society should live. It is literally the executive capitalist class tightening the rope and pushing down the boot harder, harder, and harder. This cannot be allowed to continue. They work for us, not the other way around.
