I will think about it next time I buy a military plane!

Good tech. Several countries use it with Embraer air frames, too.

I don’t want to disturb the circlejerk but in what aspects is the SAAB AWACS better and more advanced than what we are using right now? Genuine question as I don’t know much about AWACS

Look. Again. I’m 1000% behind Europe generating its own high end capabilities but we need to stop lying to ourselves about those capabilities.
Globaleye is a multi mission platform, with all the issues and compromises that come with making an AWACS that also does MARPAT.
The E-7 wedgetail uses a lower frequency L band radar at 1-2ghz. The GlobalEye uses an S band radar at 3ghz.
Due to this lower frequency and greater power output I estimate the E-7 radar would detect a stealthy drone or fighter at more than twice the distance of the GlobalEye radar.
The problem is if the GlobalEye system sat 100 mile behind an F-35 or any AESA radar jet, and it could not see further than the combats own radar. As a result the F-35 does not get an increase in situational awareness. If the GlobalEye sat only 20 miles behind the fighters, it can now see beyond the fighters own radar but the GlobalEye system becomes highly vulnerable. That makes you have to worry about protecting the GlobalEye system. The jets end up being able to perform better if the GlobalEye wasn’t there.
The E-7 by comparison can safely sit 100 miles behind the fighters and still see far beyond the fighters radar.
Wesgetail also flies way higher for way longer. Which has huge benefits to range and logs

Probably less expensive, too. And Mango Unchained can’t just end support for it because he’s upset.

I believe their awacs system can be installed on various jets. On the picture it must be a Bombardier (canadian) but I think the french AF is studying a Dassault Falcon with this system on it

France is in discussion to buy these to replace its AWACS.
It’s a no brainer.

Someone smashed the wind screen of my old AWACS, and painted a swastika on it. I’m buying European AEW from now on.

It’s apparently got a bit of a dead zone/lower detection cone out front, I suppose you then just fly 2 and Zig Zag across the sky!

While modern systems like Saab’s Erieye or GlobalEye offer great radar tech in a smaller, more efficient package, AWACS (like the E-3 Sentry) is still superior for large-scale operations. It has full 360° radar coverage, far greater command and control capability, longer endurance, and can coordinate entire air campaigns. AEW&C systems are great for regional defense—but AWACS is built for global power projection and combat-tested C2.

AWACS are already in the process of being sunset and will be retired within the decade. They are being replaced by E-7A’s by 2032.
As an American I’m big on EU arming itself with its own industry, but as this post is trying to compare capabilities it really should be comparing what is coming online and not the thing in the process of being retired that started flying in 1977.

This aircraft is more advanced than its American counterpart (Boeing), and yet NATO chose the American aircraft.

Seems like only ten have been built (or are in active duty). Maybe production could be restarted for our purposes.
Also, did Sweden deliver two of the planes to Ukraine, like they announced in summer 2024?

Absolutely not, the single radar has multiple blind spots and can track less contacts, the flight time/range is less than the American.
