Something I really like about GIS maps of the Northeast is that the areal units get small enough for you to see stuff without big empty spaces visually weighting things for no reason

Also “born and raised” in New Jersey…and still there.
Can we get a 2020 and 2016 for comparison?
Because broadly speaking…the south/southwest is farm and marsh, the north/northwest is a mountain, and that large eastern block includes the Pinelands (home of the Jersey Devil!).
Yes, there was a percentage shift, but this map is also the perfect example of population clusters and densities.

Wouldn’t be shocked if the GOP eventually turn NJ to a swing state in the future. The state gets tons of first-generation Americans who tend to be religious and center-right or outright right-wing on social issues.

People still defend running Kamala too, it’s crazy.
Idk why anyone thought she was capable of winning after being forced down our throats at the last minute. Insanity.

So basically, everything that is not a New York/Philadelphia suburb voted from Trump?

The closeness of the election in Jersey really shows how effectively Trump managed to convince people he was the “good for the economy” candidate. Jersey is an incredibly expensive state and inflation really hammered people, Trump worked hard to try and pin it on Biden and many many voters took the bait. Any speculation about the future of the Republican party that isn’t based on how the economy does in the next 4 years is missing the forest for the trees.

All counties in every state swung farther red than they ever have.

The real point that democrats fails to see from this election, is that New York and New Jersey were closer to flipping red than Florida was to flipping blue.
That should terrify democrats.

And in the middle of that strip of blue just happens to be the interstate that goes between Philly and NYC. Take from that what you will. I take from it that people with more money, who travel more and live near cities are more liberal.

Housing is killing this state, Dems are in charge of everything here so they are getting the blame, it’s a good microcosm for what’s happening nationally.
Much like nationally, they aren’t doing anything about it, so people are leaving. I also don’t blame anyone involved, we told people that the only way normal people can gain wealth is through home ownership and now we are all standing around with shocked pikachu faces when people do everything they can to ensure the highest price for their home.
It’s almost like the whole world is just in the late stages of some system and that why everything is going to hell

Something to consider, New Jersey has a significant Muslim and Jewish populations, part of both of whom had movements (of very different sizes) to not vote for Harris. One because she didn’t “condemn the anti-semitism from the protest movement, and wasn’t a strong enough supporter of Israel” and the other for “supporting genocide”.
Both movements have vanished from social media since Election Day, I wonder why?

Good thing that Biden withdrew his reelection bid because had he done otherwise, Trump would have won in NJ.
Bringing illegal migrants from Texas to the New York City metropolitan areas through busing really worked to make NJ a semi-swing state.

The dems can bounce back if they’ll quit being so establishment.
Obama bailed out the banks and pushed the wars instead of pulling out. Now people can’t afford homes. They wouldn’t run Bernie because his platform is a criticism to the Obama legacy. Anyone who criticizes the war with Russia, which started with us bombing Syria and seizing oil fields, is called a russian agent.
I hope the current dem party is rebuilt on the ashes of obamas fake populism and imperilistic foreign policy.
Celebrities, donors, moralistic preaching on divisive issues, and bragging about diplomas will lead nowhere.

if they had a candidate who was voted in by the people instead ..
i did not expect they decided to put in a candidate who did horrible during the last debate where Tulsi Gabbard chewed her out pretty badly on the debate stated..

I keep telling people. If it wasn’t for the places like Elizabeth, Newark, Trenton, Jersey City, etc. then we would be a red state. People love to skip our state, thinking we’re solid blue when in reality, we’re purple.

I used to live in NJ. Half the registered republicans don’t show up to vote since they feel it’s a waste of time and a lost cause. I imagine since it’s a state in play now more will actually show up in the next election.

The land bridge from Philly to New York City keeps NJ blue.
nearly as close as “battleground” Arizona (5.5% difference in AZ vs 5.86% in NJ)
I think of NJ as being quite blue,
5.86% lead for Harris is tighter than I would have expected.
looking at past results a Republican has not received over 45% there since 2004, before that, 1988.
