A film that makes “Plan 9 from Outer Space” seem like a masterwork by Tarkovsky. It’s 1961, so the tropes include a defecting Soviet scientist (Tor Johnson. Yes, THAT Tor Johnson!), commies in pursuit, and an atomic blast, which turns the scientist into a mutant monster (Tor Johnson). Johnson brings his immense yet subtle acting talents to the dual role of scientist and beast, making it seem that no human emotion is beyond his reach.

Man, this was a tough watch when it was on MST3K. If you want to watch it without Mike & the bots you should probably seek professional help.
