Well, they aren’t allowed in the EU either, because of a huge number of safety standards, environmental standards, registration requirements, etc.
So I wonder what would happen if a UK Cybertruck owner tried to cross the Channel with one… my guess is they wouldn’t even let them on the ferry / into the tunnel

Wanna stop seeing them seized by police ? They just have to keep their dangerous rolling dumpsters out or Europe.
Avoiding unnecessary deaths caused by braindead morons driving these is better than stroking the ego of an oligarch from USA.

The vehicle literally hasn’t met the safety standards it doesn’t have a valid certificate in the UK (or EU) it isn’t political it is basic admin, just like you can’t export American chicken to UK and EU due to the chlorine washing.

I can totally see Musk deciding that his company didn’t have to bother conforming to UK or EU standards, and hoping that consumer pressure would force the regulators to surrender.

You can’t actually buy a cybertruck directly from Tesla in the EU and the UK. It doesn’t conform to the pedestrian safety requirements: no “Death Race 2000” here. There are also problems with the indicators and the fog light. It doesn’t have “type approval”. So the vehicle in question was probably a “grey import” that didn’t meet UK regulations. It’s as simple as that. There was also the specific issue of the driver being a permanent resident in the UK driving a vehicle registered and insured in another country.

Policy is a thing agreed upon and thus enforced by representatives, constituents or something like that. Is a ban on a dangerous vehicle politically motivated? Sure. As it should be. Is it politically motivated in the sense of “two fingers up” to Elon Musk? Sure, as if fucking should be.

Surprisingly the fugly half-rendered PS2 model of a car with:
-no crumple zones,
-doors that’s jam permanently shut via broken panels if you close them too hard
-unbreakable glass
is actually unsafe, this surprised all Cybertruck buyers, because they have seven IQ points between them and are surprised when the sun sets at dusk.
