I’m aware other people have suggested this before, but in light of all the shitty “OMG Daniel as James!!” fancasts rising again, I felt like reminding you all of why this is perfect.
Cold open of season 7, episode 3. The trio is getting ready to infiltrate the Voldemort-controlled ministry of magic. Ron and Hermione capture three ministry workers offscreen, take their hairs and tell Harry that they need to polyjuice into them. After they take the potion, the camera pans out and then goes back to them, to reveal Daniel, Rupert and Emma are the workers they transfigured into. Series intro begins.
This would allow for the new cast to have 7 seasons worth of development without being overshadowed by cameos from the OG movies, and then, for just one episode, we get the original trio playing Harry, Ron and Hermione again, the biggest fan-service ever, without damaging the overall plot.
If there’s an HBO executive lurking in this sub, you know what to do

The best part about this is that the ministry scene was actually the last scene they filmed for the series.

Personally I think it’s too involved for a cameo. They should be be minimally-speaking or non-speaking roles. Personally I think Grint would be a perfect Mundungus Fletcher but he’d be bordline too present. Although he’s a very good character actor so with the right director it’s possible it could be done well.
My fiancee and I have discussed this to no end
If they were 3 of the people who Harry shakes hands with in The Leaky Cauldron the first time Harry visits it would be perfect. Get them in early so fans stop asking and wondering, and it serves as an onscreen “passing of the torch” to the new actor for Harry.
Alternatively:
Watson- voicing the Sphynx in the maze or the ministry’s omniscient announcement voice or the mermaid chieftainesse
Radcliffe- voicing and Mo-cap for Grawp, or making niffler/bowtruckle/grindlow noises. Something fun
Grint- voicing Aragog would be a funny irony for Ron’s character.
Grint and Radcliffe as the Gargoyles in the castle. We never hear more than 2 speak at once.
I firmly believe that they should be there, but not THERE, you know? Voice actor, heavily make-up’d or otherwise hidden visually, or very briefly blink-and-you’ll-miss-it seen.

I always hated how Runcorn was the same height as the other two.
Much is made of Runcorn’s size and intimidating presence in the book.

Didn’t Daniel once say that if they ever did a remake, he’d like to play James?
I think the best way to have the old kids be adults in the new series would be to just have them play different characters entirely.
Although Rupert Grint as Arthur would be pretty cool imo.
I don’t think Emma Watson would want to be tied to a big role again.

This is fun to speculate about, but I don’t actually want it. Each adaptation should be its own thing. I don’t want any crossover between the actors. It would be distracting.

I’m fine with any minor characters, a guest spot like this is meant to be fun and quick.
These three would be fine but that doesn’t mean others wouldn’t be good too.
A group of quidich fans at the world cup for instance, or even just customers at hogsmead.

GDI, I’m probably gonna get downvoted to oblivion, but speaking for myself at least, these 3 are so iconic in these roles that when they play other characters in different movies I have difficulty getting into the film because I just see Harry, Ron, or Hermione. So having them in anything Harry Potter would just detonate my brain and pull me right out of the immersion.
If I cast any of them for a cameo it’d have to be a brief, obscure, background one where they are disguised behind prosthetics and make-up.

Yes. I’ve commented the same thing a few times but kept getting downvoted for it, but it’s the only thing that really works.
If the original three are in the film, it has to be cameos only. And with the age difference due to the passage of time since the movies were made, they’d be the right ages for those three characters, and it would be a wonderful way to bring the films and the show together.

That would be hilarious, but I think such a cameo would put too much focus on them.
Dan should be one of the Dadelus Diggle. Rupert should be Florian Fortescue. Emma should be Madam Bones.

I think the trio will only agree to funny, one-off cameos. Dan and Rupert are very busy, and Emma is semi-retired from acting. While it would be great for fans, I doubt they would agree to an extended action sequence with special effects and stunts.
Dan would be fantastic as Archie-the-nightgown-guy. Emma would probably agree to a voiceover role as the mirror that criticizes Harry’s hair. Rupert might be good as a shopkeeper in Diagon Alley (maybe the one who sells Crookshanks to Hermione).

How would they fit it into the series exactly.

Jesus no

Such a brilliant cameo.
Daniel as James Potter ,
Emma as hermione ‘s mother,
Rupert as Arthur Weasley
Okay wait, that’s perfect.
