I was honestly surprised by how the game started.
It’s refreshing to see the players take what could be a break very seriously

The first fight kind of made sense. Hagel and Tkachuck have some beef with the Tampa vs Panthers rivalry. But then the other two go off and oh boy! Incredible first period!
That is a terrible comparison because the NHL’s ASG is not any different than the Pro Bowl or NBA ASG.
The reason this is different is because A) You represent your country, and B) it’s essentially a tryout for the 2026 Olympic team for these players.
Probably the only one of two sports that can do this with all the international representation in the NHL. The other might be MLB
If the NBA or NFL did this, it would be like USA1 vs USA 2, and USA 3 vs USA 4

I really liked Sweden Finland too. They had a few minutes where I thought they might go but didn’t want to hurt the team potentially. Good back and forth action though throughout! Bye bye all star game
It was 2 seconds. By the time 3 seconds had come off the clock, a SECOND fight had broken out.
That was a good game. Not sure if anything will top that but we’ll see 😉

To be fair, football is such a violent game, an all star game doesnt really make sense. Theyre already playing upwards of 20 plus games with pre season and post season counted. Another game doesnt make sense. The NBA is a joke. Theyre all friends and only care in the 4th quarter.
Mlb all star game is still fun and you throw in the homerun derby, its pretty awesome because the stars still want to do it.
Hockey, though, you put pads and skates on and these guys change. Theres no friends on the ice and I love it. You can be friends after the game, but for 60 minutes, i want to beat you. Its too bad hockey isnt more appreciated in the U.S. because its awesome. Im sad i was late to the party.

Slow down. Don’t forget this is just a year removed from Kuchrov phoning in a pre recorded phone call. This might only be a one year thing given the Olympics are next year. So what’s going to happen in 2 years?
Mostly just glad the Caps didn’t have to risk any injuries.
They’re probably also treating this as their tryout for a spot on their respective Olympic teams next year.
It’s because these guys are playing for something.
What is there to play for in an all star game?
Now, that being said, I don’t think this would work every year. The rotation of “ASG, World Cup, ASG, Olympics” would be perfect. Having the All Star game and the events as a nice novelty only every other year ain’t a bad thing. Maybe give a bigger prize for winning the all star game.

Who is missing the all-star game ?
Funny thing is, NHL players are some of the nicest people in professional sports…I mean, all pro sports are full of A-holes, but the NHL has the least amount of A-holes.. A good chunk of the MN Wild, Gaborik and Walz being the two I remember most, or any one of the teams wives would come into the Blockbuster store I worked at and were always polite and never rude to any of the staff or other customers. Similarly, I hear stories from around the globe of other interactions from people when they met or encountered other pro hockey players. And I can’t recall anyone ever saying anything bad about any of them…I’m sure there are horror stories out there somewhere. Hockey players are just built different. In mind and body..

Too many individuals on team canada and not enough team mindset. Hockey is a team game and playing as a team will win you championships over one guy who thinks he has to do it all himself. Mcdavid and mackinnon have heros complex.

I’ve drug my friends into watching more hockey. Now we do frequent dad’s nights at our local AHL games. One friend had never been to a hockey game before, and now he’s become my NHL game buddy.
Was one of the greatest games of all time! As a Canadian it was sad they lost but the game was great either way!
