Go fuckin figure the party that tries to say Democrats do shady shit like “allow dead people to vote” would have someone with fuckin *dementia* holding office. Go fuckin figure. Everyone with an (R) next to their name can eat a dick.
It’s a cesspool from top to bottom. We pay for this shit, and they just gave themselves a raise while denying a minimum wage increase yet again.
Stop voting for Republicans
You know how you can know people who go their entire lives driving a car but them ask them basic things about how it operates and it baffles them? That’s the psyche of the common American voter. Oil is for what? Ethics is for what?
Term limits or age limits. Don’t term out AOC in her 40s. But don’t let McConnell or Pelosi keep their crypt keeper claws on the levers of power, either.
ALL politicians. Even down to the city level:
Should make no more than minimum wage
Should be banned from trading any stocks at all and this also includes their family members
Have a 4 year term limit and once that’s up you can run for a NEW position or you’re done in government, find something else now. You can keep getting new positions until you’ve worked every spot in government but only 4 years at each position and never returning to one.
Politician isn’t a career. It’s a duty.
Edited to clarify from another response: However it has to be. I just think government should only be a duty and not a career choice. Get in, work for the betterment of your society, then get out and get a real job.
People are so mentally exhausted by the current political climate that things that should absolutely infuriate and appall you are just another disappointing news story amongst hundreds of disappointing news stories.
This is so wildly inappropriate and speaks to term/age limit reform as well as her party casually allowing her to hold her position while having severe dementia. They’re robbing the American people of adequate representation and a functioning government.
Imagine this would’ve been a democrat. After two days missing it would be headlines about how she is in hiding and running away from her job and just collecting a check etc. even after the truth it would be headlines for months.

It’s not just a term limits thing, but also a government employment thing. Government jobs are damn near impossible to get fired from.
I’m reading a book on LBJ and this shit happened even back in his day. “When Texas sent someone to Washington they sent them for life”. And they mention plenty of congressmen during the New Deal seeing out their senile days in committee meetings. It’s always been this way.
She practically got Universal Basic Income
Congress members have free Healthcare paid for by the government.
If her office had let anyone know she was no longer able to perform the duties of her job description, she would have had to resign, thereby losing her free Healthcare and having to pay ouf of pocket.
Because her district seemingly loves her and the serious cognitive decline seems recent. She won 2 to 1 in 2022.

Healthcare is tied to employment, if she lost her job in Congress they’d kick her out of the facility. Probably worth rethinking that aspect of healthcare.
We have term limits. Six years for senators, two years for representatives. What we need is to develop better candidates and vote for them.
But yeah, people in residential dementia care should not be in public office.
She should have to pay that money we paid her back. That’s what happens with food stamps, workman’s comp, etc.
I’m not in favor of term limits but I think this story makes me more open to imposing a mandatory retirement age of 65 for members of Congress than anything else.
