What about when the cat does a big stretch? Surely they are allowed to make a verbal acknowledgement of such a stretch? Surely?

*Into Great Silence*. It’s about the Cathusians monks, and it’s truly an experience to watch. Despite being a documentary, it approaches art. If you could paint a portrait of a life lived over time instead of a still image, this what such a portrait might look like.

I love this! It’s great to see that even monks appreciate the joy of furry friends.

Is it Into Great Silence?
That’s an amazing film. Also, please read An Infinity of Little Hours. Changed my life.

Love it! I used to be part of a Great Pyrenees rescue that placed working Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD). A Carmelite Monastery was raising sheep and goats and having problems with loose dogs and coyotes so designated the nun in charge of the livestock to contact us and handle the adoption process. They don’t take a vow of absolute silence but are severely restricted from talking, at least at this one. She was not only given permission to talk to us about the dogs even after adoption and to visitors asking about the dogs, but to talk to the dogs! 🤣

I have many questions.
How do you take a vow of silence?
Is it like, no talking after you answer back “I swear.”? Do you make the zipper and key lock motion with a senior monk? What do they do in a fire drill? Do senior monks wedgie the juniors to try and break them?
What happens when someone rolls up looking for directions? Is there a designated on site talker?

It would be completely uncivilized to forbid the calling of the kitties to meals. I’m so relieved 😌

How is it that cats get a pass but humans get the silent treatment?

I am curious about this nearly-wordless doc… surely there must be dialogue in the documentary or a narrator or something?

It’s great silence is a cool film. Worth watching for anyone to get a perspective that is well outside of their normal worldview.
