My daughter told everyone at her kindergarten when she was 3 that her mom had killed our dog with the car.
It was kinda true since she had taken our dog with cancer to the vet to be put to sleep, but the only thing our daughter remembered from what we had explained was that mom had taken the dog out to the car and now the dog was dead.

Was in a Roadhouse talking to some kids I didn’t know and showing them aircraft photos from work so their mother had a chance to eat her tea. Was just leaving when one of them mentioned their Dad had died in a gyro accident.

If this was true, it’s sad. Kid probably is thinking about it all the time and doesn’t know what to do with the thoughts/feelings.

I taught preschool in a farming town in college and we had a boy who told us “dad left us.” His mom goes “you have to stop telling people that. You just don’t see him because he’s harvesting while you’re awake.”

We were watching Olympic diving and my 3 y/o son saw a dive for the first time. As the diver dipped below the surface, my son yelled “OH NO! HE’S GONE FOREVER!”
Like dang kid, assume the worst why don’t you!

One time I was picking my niece up from visiting with her father (did it as a favor to my sister who was going through a tough divorce).
Anyways, we meet at a grocery store and afterwards I got to do a tiny bit of shopping. My niece was really sad because she wasn’t used to the arrangement and she starts crying in the store and yelling “I want my daddy”.
Talk about fuckin awkward when I get stopped by a group of people acting like I just abducted a kid who is trying to get back to their parents.

Holy shit. This Twitter account is Matt Bell!
He wrote an amazing literary sci Fi novel called Appleseed, and has one of the best books on writing craft I’ve ever found- “Refuse to be Done”.
Crazy to see him here so randomly

Wouldn’t be surprised if this actually happened. When little kids lose a parent, they have to try to process it as best as they can, and for many kids part of that is telling absolutely anyone they get the chance to.

I’m sure his dad is fine and the kid is calling a jet ski a “he”
