In europe, we almost exterminated all the dangerous animal except the boar. So you can stroll in any forest and you are ok. Not long ago they introduced back two wolfs and even they are chill

Always felt the European woods were more magical!! Like in north America you die of hypothermia in the middle of nowhere and your body is never found but in Europe you die because of a witch or a curse and your body serve as a warning now

Because the woods in the USA in some places are legitimately massive chunks of unclaimed minimally-managed nature with many animals and geographic features that are actual threats to people. Hauling ass out into the middle of some forested areas in the US can and will be of significant risk to you if you’re not adequately prepared.
But overall this is less *”Why are USA woods so dangerous?”* and more *”The landmass of the USA is significantly bigger than what you’re imagining.”*

Are you European? Because if you’d be you would know the “children” stories that take place in European woods. Everything from banshees to witches to ghouls and whatever other monstrous horror beast parents of old could make up to deter the kids from wandering in the forest.

Why is it that the woods in Europe in fairy tales are always portrayed as scary death traps but woods in the USA and Canada in fairy tales are seen as happy go lucky?

I think you’re forgetting that all the creepy fairy tails about dark woods and forests originated in Europe

I don’t think this is a thing. If you look at old European folk lore, like Grimm’s Fairy Tales and stuff, the woods are almost always portrayed as the dangerous unknown. I imagine it’s common across the world to fear the wilderness.

Europeans murdered all their wildlife but we still have bears and mountain lions in North America.

Have you ever met a moose, a bear, a badger, a wolverine, a pissed off skunk? LOL loads of stuff to keep your trip to the woods “interesting”. Also in many places, you could walk for weeks or longer before finding any signs of other humans.

We have 3.3 million square kilometers of wooded area (not including the US territories.) The entire UK covers under 250 thousand kilometers, there’s so much more unknown.
